- Abstract (EN)
- Additive manufacturing (AM) as a key enabling technology provides new options for engineering design of medical parts. For example, various medical devices and dental framework structures could be produced in a patient-specific manner. In medical applications, the surface roughness determines the likelihood of cell adherence as well. Therefore, plasma electrolytic polishing (PeP), which is more environmentally friendly, is used to polish the surfaces of additively CoCrW dental parts. The polished medical parts showed a significant increase of gloss after PeP, while surface roughness decreases. Typical features of the AM process, such as adhering particles, are removed. Cytotoxicity studies of the sterilized surfaces show a very good cell compatibility. Furthermore, a polishing module was assembled to polish medical parts automatically. Thus, post-processing of the CoCrW dental parts is significantly shorter (< 15 minutes compared to 60 minutes) compared to the state of the art.
